The Newport Zen Meditation Group
(Serene Reflection Meditation – Zazen)
I take refuge in the Buddha,
I take refuge in the Dharma,
I take refuge in the Sangha.
Rev. Master Chushin Passmore, a Zen monk in the Soto Zen Tradition of Buddhism, is now settled in Newport . He hopes to establish a Buddhist temple either in Newport itself, or in the surrounding area. Rev Chushin was ordained in 1977 by Rev. Master Jiyu-Kennett, one of the most respected Zen teachers of her generation. He has taught meditation and Buddhist doctrine and practice for over twenty-five years both in the U.K. and North America .
As a first step to realising this plan, Rev. Chushin founded the Dharma Cloud Trust in 2001. The object of the Trust is to encourage the practice of Buddhism in South East Wales, especially the form of Buddhism known as Soto Zen (Serene Reflection Meditation). The Dharma Cloud Trust is a part of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives whose rules and guidelines it follows. The Newport Zen Meditation Group is the active expression of the Dharma Cloud Trust and meets several times a week :
All are welcome to visit. It takes about an hour to learn how to meditate. There is no charge for this. The Dharma (the Buddha's teaching) is offered freely to all who sincerely ask. Buddhism has always relied upon donations from its lay followers in order to continue its work. Whatever your age, sex, race, religion, or background you can easily learn how to meditate and in so doing change your life for the better. Meditation has the power to transform one's life at the deepest level.
Group meetings are held at :

In Buddhism, the four classes of Buddhists are – female monk, male monk, layman, lay woman. The monks offer the Dharma (buddhist teaching) to the lay congregation and provide spiritual advice and religious ceremonies: the laity offer their gratitude for this by deepening their own training, as well as offering practical assistance such as food, clothing, and financial help. The Dharma Cloud Trust relies entirely on donations for its continued existence.

Hatreds never cease by hatreds
in this world.
By love alone do they cease.
This is an ancient law.
